These six courses serve as Breadth Electives I–III, the Senior Design Project, and Technical Electives I–II in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering curriculum requirements. Students in this specialization take CodeĬonstruction Engineering Elective (see list below) This specialization provides a strong fundamental background for graduate study in construction engineering and project management. It also develops the ability to collaborate with other civil engineering professionals to solve problems associated with projects and understand the engineering science to effectively implement the solutions. The Construction Engineering specialization provides future construction engineers and managers with the ability to manage construction projects. Students may choose to focus on one of the following specializations:Ĭonstruction Engineering Specialization Construction engineers plan, oversee, and manage the construction efforts associated with building new or rehabilitating existing buildings, bridges, roads, and other facilities. Beyond these courses, students satisfy curriculum requirements by selecting elective courses to broaden their civil engineering knowledge while strengthening their understanding in specific areas. All students that pursue the Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree are required to take introductory courses in surveying, construction engineering, geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulics, structural analysis, transportation engineering, and civil engineering materials. Civil Engineering SpecializationsĬivil engineering is a broad field of study. Bachelor of Civil Engineering graduates are prepared for a variety of entry-level civil engineering positions or graduate/professional schools. The curriculum culminates in the capstone senior design experience. Engineering science and design are integrated throughout, with a gradual shift in emphasis from introduction of fundamental concepts, principles, and tools to analysis and design in increasingly realistic situations. The first two years of the Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree program focus on basic principles, which are then applied in the third and fourth years in required and elective civil engineering coursework.
